In honor of Ten Years in Business, LDG Consulting is highlighting twelve of our top clients from this past decade. We are elated to announce Honoree Number One: Mercy Housing Southeast. Mercy Housing is redefining affordable, low-income housing. They’re a national nonprofit organization that is working to build a more humane world where poverty is alleviated, communities are healthy and all people can develop their full potential.
Mercy Housing is one of the nation’s largest affordable housing organizations, participating in the development, preservation, management and/or financing of affordable, program-enriched housing across the country. They acquire and renovate existing housing, as well as develop new affordable rental properties.
Nearly three years ago today, we were asked to be a part of an impressive partnership of community commitment and love between Mercy Care and Mercy Housing Southeast – the Atlanta regional office of one of the largest affordable housing organizations in the US founded in the 80s by the Sisters of Mercy and located in Denver, CO. Mercy Care in Chamblee is a LEED SILVER health care facility right next door to Senior Residences at Mercy Park, a senior housing project. Situated on a 1.6-acre site in Chamblee, Georgia, this four-story multi-family development ensures that those 62 and older who are of low-income have an exceptional place to call home. Many units are also reserved for veterans. This development ensures that its senior residents have an outstanding place to live with the best of medicinal care at their fingertips.
James Alexander, President, Mercy Housing Southeast knows all too well the unique housing challenges associated with Atlanta’s seniors. In an NPR interview in late 2018, James had this to say about Atlanta affordable housing: “Ensuring that the affordable housing that is built is also in areas of choice and opportunity in the city. Can people who live in affordable housing have access to healthcare, groceries and quality schools and can we ensure that that affordable housing isn’t just in low-income areas.”
Mercy Park received Urban Land Institute Atlanta’s 24th Annual Award for Excellence in Civic / Institutional Development. The project combines a 79-unit affordable senior housing community with a 50,000 square foot health clinic that provides adult and pediatric primary, mental health, and dental care services to residents as well as the greater community. Located in a district that is rapidly transitioning from an industrial area to a lively mixed-use residential, commercial, retail and services neighborhood, it also enjoys being within ¼ mile of a MARTA station.
